Environmentalist would prob call me a gambler, when betting on the unlimited human ability to solve problems. I am in favor of progress, energy abundance and rapid creation of knowledge. We don’t need degrowth but rapid growth and free markets.
They see this and think I am gambling with the future of humanity. But what they don’t realize: One always gambles when making choices. Because the future is inherently unpredictable. So when one thinks he is not gambling he still is, but he gambles on the premise that the future will resemble the past, and no new problems will arise.
They gamble as well, but they are betting on the premise that climate change will stay the only big problem for the next couple of centuries. A blindness to not see counterfactuals.
The funny thing is their path will lead to inevitable extinction because sooner or later there will come a problem that is outside their set of solvable problems.
Rapid progress is the only slightest possibility at all to not go extinct. The set of problems that we can solve must grow as fast as possible.
Churchill: If you’re going through hell, keep going.
In spirit of this: KEEP THE PROGRESS MACHINE RUNNING and be amazed
